AVOIDING BREAKDOWNS
Breakdowns are time consuming stressful occasions. Most can be avoided if simple rules are followed:
Do the POWDER CHECK:
Petrol/Deisel, etc. Do I have enough? Over 1500 people ran out of fuel on Westcountry motorways in 2006.
Oil Modern vehicles are generally so economical in oil usage that it is easy to forget to top up the levels. (Don’t forget the gearbox)
Water Not just the coolant, don’t forget the washers. It is a legal requirement for your windscreen washer to be fully functioning.
Damage Have you checked around your vehicle recently? Someone may have damaged it whilst it has been parked. Some damage may make the vehicle unroadworthy or unreliable.
Electrics Lights (interior and panel as well as exterior) are no good if they do not work! See and be seen...
Rubber Worn or damaged tyres are dangerous. A legal tread depth does not guarantee a safe tyre. Check them regularly for uneven wear, cuts and bulges. Don’t forget the wipers either.
